Creating a website is a skill that will serve you for life so why not take the time to learn it and give yourself the opportunity to save vast web designer fees and change and tweak your web pages without having to rely on someone else all the time?
Finding reliable web developers and freelancers on websites such as rentacoder.com and ifreelance.com can be massively time consuming and costly. Often people find they get mixed results and have to rely on the webmasters to make changes on their terms!
Being a web developer myself I have seen this in action and I try my hardest to give customers an open and honest assessment on their projects and the cost involved. A recent client had spent nearly $16000 with a group of fly-by-night web designers and STILL has no website live on the Internet! I offered a solution that will enable them to get their fairly basic website online for under $200 using some great online services. I do charge a good amount for my time as it is precious to me but where there is a more reasonable option I will let clients know.
Some high end websites can cost thousands because of the skills and resources you are employing. If a plumber takes a minute to fix a problem and charges you $100 you may say: ‘but it only took you a minute?’ and he would most likely say: ‘yes and ten years in training and appenticeship!’ You are paying for the experience and knowledge when you employ professionals.
